Beneath the Umbrella

"Beneath the Umbrella" is an installation of reclaimed umbrella material that re-imagines the intimacy of sharing an umbrella with a friend or loved one. Visitors are invited to use the prompts to start a conversation with a partner. Partners are also invited to try a mindful listening technique in which one person speaks for 2 minutes without interruption or affirmation, and then their partner repeats what they heard.

This piece was a collaboration with writer Phoebe Meyers, which we installed during our residencies at Art Farm Nebraska.
