The Knitting Machine

2017

The Knitting Machine is an inversion of a traditional knitting machine, in which a mechanical system provides the labor to realize a human designer's vision.  The patterns for the colorful 'quilt square' fabric tiles representing the output were generated randomly using a piece of Matlab code, and the shapes were then knit by hand.

This piece was featured in the 2017-2018 Brown University Science Center Exhibition: Entropy.
